Ford Repair: 2005 Ford F-150 Lariat XLT Super Crew, ford f 150, backyard buddies

Question
Hello,  My driver side window made a sound like it was forced upward almost like the glass was cracking but it was fine when it closed completely. I left vehicle returned to find the window had fallen down and but no sign of broken glass,  but the window will not go.  I went to a windshield repair shop who didn't take it apart,  they checked only to see if it would raise up and determined it was a broken cable or regulator went out so they said I need to replace the window regulator.  I have been burned many times by the dealerships and many highly recommended mechanics that have left me broke and still with same problem they claimed to have fixed.  I am afraid to even let any mechanic check it lately because I have left shops with more problems with my vehicle than what I went in for.  I am seriously considering an automotive class at my local college,  but in the meantime would you be able to help me troubleshoot the problem I have?  Thank you for your time and any help or suggestions you may have for me.  I appreciate your time reading my request.  Have a great evening!
                         Sincerely,
                           Peggy

Answer
you do have a broken window regulator and i am sorry you have had problems in the past and i know it does happen but that being said was all these mechanics at garages or were some of them backyard buddies-what kind of problems have you had intermittent problems which are sometimes hard to find/diagnose or straight up problems-and if you go to a new shop please go with an open mind instead of going in with the attitude you don't trust anybody and everybody is going to rip you off-like i said i know it happens but not as much as people claim sometimes repairs are expensive and that is getting worse-for example a window regulator for a truck with regular cab is about 42.00 yours is over 110.00 labor should be between 1-1.5 hours at our shop that repair would run you around 200.00 but that is with a factory regulator and our labor rate is 62 per hour-my dad passed away this year he was an excellent technician and people/customers really loved him but i will never forget the customer one morning who came in and was extremely pushy and distrustful-never had been our shop before-he told dad he was going to stand right there because he didn't trust us and he had been ripped off so many times it wasn't happening again-dad told him he didn't have a reason to not trust us at this point but he just couldn't stay in the work area-the man said he was to in an aggressive way-dad told him where the road was and i don't blame him-everyone is not crooks please remember that when you have your truck repaired-anywhere around n.e. georgia we will fix it for you good luck.
