Ford Repair: diagnostic code, camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor

QUESTION: Hello, I have a 2000 f-150 4 x 4 runs rough at idle and poor mileage I scanned codes and got one i have never run into. "p1309 misfire monitor hardware" any idea on what may be causing this? and what sensor would send this code?

ANSWER: There are three possibilities. A faulty camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, or the PCM itself.

QUESTION: Thanks, thats what I figured. Do you know if there is a way to test these sensors without replacing. I thought there should be a way to test resistance or voltage through the sensor but I can't find any specs on this. You know the process of elimination can get expensive.

Most of the shops will have a scanner that can tell. The genesis scanner, at a cost of around $2500-3500. I don't have any specs on the resistance either, but that does sound like a plan. I would imagine that anything over 1 ohm would be a problem, but don't hold me to it. Most garages will waive the "diagnostic fee" if you choose to let them do the labor.
