Ford Repair: ford explorer problem., water leak, white smoke

Question
started by the engine make a clanking noise similar to when it's low on oil. Well, it ended up overheating. On my drive home, it started overheating again, and the engine lost acceleration similar to when it had a misfire problem. I pulled over and the exhaust was pumping black smoke. Someone pulled over to help and added water. Well, the engine shakes horrible and sputters. The exhaust pumps out a kind of white smoke now and the exhaust has a significant amount of water vapor. The guy had said that the oil doesn't have enough water mixed in it like it should have. I drove it a few hundred feet to get it to a safe location off the side of the road and when I did, it had a significant water leak, directly under the engine, not in the vicinity of the radiator.

Answer
The over heating, the clanking noise, the smoke (white) leads to believe that you have a water pump failure.  However, I am puzzled with the other comments, black smoke, exhaust vapor, and stalling of the engine.
Please check the water pump, hope this helps.
