Ford Repair: starter relay, starter relay, tight connections

Question
i just put a new starter relay in again. now when i crank the motor over it keeps on cranking even when i take the key out.i have the coil wire out because i am checking the timing.

Answer
if you are having starter relay sticking the main thing that causes this is points inside relay actually arc and melt together keeping current flowing-usually caused by-not enough current being supplied or something drawing to much like a bad starter or dragging engine

first make very sure you have a battery in good condition with good clean tight connections.
good connections at the block and starter and body ground-make sure you have wires on relay in correct position
a sticking ignition switch could also cause this but is highly unlikely
most of the time it goes to current not enough or drawing to much either one gets solenoid very hot-also cheap part or cranking on it to long 30-45 seconds at a time is enough with a cooloff period between trying actually if it doesn't start in 30 seconds find out why before you ruin a starter.
