Ford Repair: 2000 Ford Escort - excessive gas consumption, gas consumption, tank fuel

Ford Escort (40,000 mi) has excessive gas consumption (~10 mpg), but seems to run fine otherwise.  Took it into shop - gas tank, fuel lines all checked out ok.  Also, no computer codes. Any suggestions?  Thanks.  - Mike

hard to believe 10 mpg-because you didn't mention any black smoke and at that mileage you should have black smoke and a cherry red convertor
fuel trims will tell if that is happening now realistically air pressure in tires/clean oil and filters/good quality gas can make a difference-try not to use e85 fuel as it will drop mileage 10-30 percent and there isn't anything you can do about it. if you have anymore symptoms let me know otherwise 10mpg doesn't make sense.
