Ford Repair: 88 crown vic amp light, amp light, crown vic

Question
QUESTION: the amp/battery light in my 1988 crown vic comes on whenever the rpms get high (like pulling out into traffic or passing on a two lane road).  Battery is brand new and alternator has just been rebuilt.  is it possible that the alternator is producing too much power, alarming the computer that the incoming voltage is too high? how can i resolve this problem.  thank you for your time and attention.

ANSWER: if all connections are good and clean-battery/block/alternator etc.
install a ford rebuilt alternator. should take care of your problem.

QUESTION: will it damage any components if i leave everything just the way it is.  the alternator i reinstalled was the original... i just had it rebuilt at a local armature business. i just don't want to spend the $$$ on a new alternator if the existing equipment will not jeopardize the integrity of the electrical system.  oh, all connections appear to be solid.  thanks, again.

Answer
these have been known to do this for years sometimes before they ever cause a problem-so you shouldn't have any problems until the light comes on solid dim or bright-i have a customer with an 1989 model that has been intermittently coming on for about 1 1/2 years with no problems but if you decide to make a long trip keep in mind you may be doing a repair out of town. good luck
