Ford Repair: 2000 Taurus FF, inertia switch, marginal improvement

Question
Our 2000 Taurus started running roughly several weeks ago. reader showed misfires in several cylinders. I checked and re-gapped the plugs with only marginal improvement. Now it won't start at all. I finally disconnected the fuel filter and find that I get no fuel coming from the pump at all. What should I troubleshoot before I go through the pain of dropping the tank to get at the fuel pump?

Answer
First thing you want to do is to check the inertia switch to rule it out. I doubt that is you're problem since it was running rough to begin with. What you want to confirm is, that there indeed is power to the fuel pump, but it is still not coming on. This can be tested with a voltmeter. Good luck, but it does indeed sound like you need to drop the tank.
