Ford Repair: 98 Explorer timing chain repair, overhead valve engine, cam engine

Question
In all honesty, how much should it cost to have the timing chain replaced.  I understand that the entire engine must be removed.  I'm not going to a dealership - it's a private mechanic.  I just want to get an idea as to what I should expect.  Thank You!

Answer
depends on if you have the overhead valve or overhead cam engine
the overhead valve engine should be around 350.00 plus parts less than 125.00---the overhead cam engine should be around 550-600 dollars plus parts which could be 250-350 dollars-if it is the latter engine their is no timing marks whatsoever because it takes special tools to set up.
I do need to add that the price is around our area which the average labor rate is about 60 per hour-this varies greatly from area as do parts prices depending on the quality of part i just had a vehicle in the shop yesterday that had an invoice with a labor rate on it for 85 per hr and this shop was only 40 miles away but in a bigger city. (i know of this shop and they have very good rep)
