Ford Repair: 1993 Explorer Eddie Bauer, head gasket problems, explorer eddie bauer

I am looking at buying one of these vehicles for 1k they say it has cracked or blown heads and water in the oil.  What would I need to do to make the repairs and how much do you think it would cost?  Is it worth it?  From my research it looks like all explorers have transmission or head gasket problems.

Take a pass on the truck. Maybe, and this is a big if, they let it go for $600-$750. Quite frankly you are looking at a minimum $800-$1500 repair. If the transmission has been rebuilt recently, maybe. Also, the problem with replacing the heads is that you're literally putting new parts on top old one's. The bottom end, pistons and rings, will still be old. If you can get you're hands on a quality low mileage reman. or even salvage, for around $800. You should find a shop to install it for around $500. I would pass if you can't get anything at that price or cheaper. Bottom line, do you're research, including warranty.
