Ford Repair: brake grinding noise..., wheel bearing, ford focus

Question
Hello Tony,
2002 Ford Focus with low mileage on it.
My cousin had brake grinding noise from the fronts. I assume wheel bearing, but after driving it realize it only does it when brakes are applied. I pulled the fronts and notice both sides have a wear line on each caliper where it was contacting the inner side of the rim. I fixed it by installing the brake pad clips properly to hold the caliper to the caliper bracket. Previous installer had them on wrong. That noise was gone and a new one was present. It sounded like the pads were glazed over or the pads were too hard. The pads are new and the rotors are the same. Could the pads be the problem here? I just don't see anything else, it's all good otherwise. There were alot of complaints online about the brakes on these cars. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hello Mike, Yes the pads can cause the noise. We have found in some cases the aftermarket pads can cause a grind, squeak or a scrape type noise when applied. You migth pull the pads off and bevel the edge around the pad lining. That will help with noise also. Hope this helps Thnaks Tony
