Ford Repair: Wet floor, interior door panel, splash shields

Question
QUESTION: Hello Drew.  The driver's side carpet on my '99 escort keeps getting wet.  I cannot locate a visible leak.  Any ideas?

ANSWER:
Hi Bill,
When you did an inspection for the water leak intrusion, did you have the interior scuff plate and "A" pillar trim removed so you can see the sheet metal body? Also, did you pull the drivers side rug back so you can see the floor pan?

Thanks,
Drew

QUESTION: Hello Drew.  The scuff plate and "A" pillar trim is off and the rug is pulled back.  The insulation is soaked to dripping wet.  I dried as much as I could and have the fan running on the area. The floor looks very solid.  I ran a flashlight under the car to look for leaks but could not find any.  With the rug pulled back the moisture seems to be worse near the front of driver's seat.  What would you suggest next?  Thanks

Answer
Bill,
With the interior trim removed, soak the drivers side of the car with a garden hose for about 1/2 to 1 hour. Look inside the car with a flashlight at the drivers side front floor.
Things that can be leaking on an escort:
Inner door panel splash shields behind your interior door panel, door opening weatherstrip could be torn or flat, top of the "A" pillar seam, bottom of the "A" pillar seam, high cowl to "A" pillar seam(all under your cowl screen), wheel well seam, bulk head seam or plug, windshield set could be loose or leaking.
Also, check the trunk area to make sure it is dry.If you have a digital camera, you can send me pictures of what you are looking at.
