Ford Repair: no warm start, exhaust gases, chemical test

Question
QUESTION: I have a 96 windstar that when it is warm and u shut it off and leave it set for a while it won't start or it starts and runs rough.  Leave it set for an hour or so and it will start good,  same as cold.  I noticed today that if u put it in reverse, hold the brake and push on the gas that it will stall and die.  I acts like it is flooding out when it is warm.  U got any ideas.

ANSWER: Hello Kenny, Does the windstar have a 3.8L engine ? Let me know Thanks Tony

QUESTION: Hello Tony, thanks for the quick reply.  It is a 3.8L engine.  The engine starts good when it is cold.  I replace the plugs yesterday and it ran realy rough for a while but today was much better but still will not start when it is warm.  I did notice that when I put it in reverse, held the brake and pushed on the gas it would stall and die and it wouldn't run very good for a while after that.  It did not do this in drive.  The transmition did loose all the oil last summer through the front seal and I added some lucas trans. additive and it hasn't leaked at all. I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not.  Thanks Kenny

ANSWER: Hello Kenny, Did any of the old plugs have any discoloration? Do you smell fuel or a sweat smell like coolant? Check engine lite come on?  Let me know Thanks Tony

QUESTION: the plugs had a light colored to them.  did not smell anything but didn't sniff them.  also the motor is loosing antifreeze.  It also has a some black coming out of the exhaust.  engine light is not on.  was on last summer but has been off for some time now.

Answer
Hello Kenny, Sorry didn't read the next note, I would have someone do a chemical test on the coolant to see if it test positive for exhaust gases. Most repair shops can do this, also check to see if the frt timing cover is leaking between block and cover about where waterpump ports are. Hope this helps Thanks Tony
