Ford Repair: ford ranger issues, ford ranger xlt, throttle position sensor

Question
hi james, i have a 1996 ford ranger xlt v-6 4.0 liter pushrod engine, recently the vehicle blew out the lower intake manifold gasket. i bought the complete gasket set (which consisted of the lower intake manifold gasket, valve cover gaskets, the upper air intake gaskets and the rtv sealant) and installed the new gaskets (taking proper care to remove any residue of the old gaskets and torqued the bolts on the lower intake to the proper specs and in the proper order). before i changed the gaskets the engine idled and ran normal (even though i kept on for a very short period just to move it to backyard) now after the new gaskets are in the truck at first was running like it had a miss and it sounded like it was sucking in air (bad vac line)then the rpms would drop to near zero and the engine would almost stall then the engine would recover and go to 1000 rpms, then drop down again about a minute later and stall out the engine. i rechecked all my connections (i marked everyone of them to ensure that i put them back into their proper locations)i replaced the vac lines one at a time that were connected to the air intake manifold and now the engine will not stay running, it starts the tach goes up to 2000 rpm then shuts right off unless you push down on the gas pedal and hold it, and even then it would try to stall out. does doing this type of repair require that the vehicle be put on a computer to reset the tps, maf sensor or anything of that nature, i have triple checked  everything and i'm at a loss as to what the issue could be, but atleast its not leaking engine coolant anymore.
thanx in advance for any help on this issue.

Answer
There is no magic reset button. If you are very confident with the gasket install then there are two places to look. Both reside in the throttle body. They are the idle air control vale and the throttle position sensor. Is the check engine light not on? If it is,have the codes read with a scanner.
