Ford Repair: Engine cranks but will not start, engine cranks, switch failure

Question
1993 Ford escort will crank but will not start, it has plenty of fuel and air, battery has plenty of power. It does not have any spark, to the plugs. Need help to troubleshoot the ignition system, help on finding my power failure.

Answer
You may have broken a timing belt.Take a volt meter and test the electrical plug/socket going to the ignition coil to make sure you have voltage.Lack there of could represent a ignition switch failure. If you have voltage to the coil but no spark, try replacing the coil. You can check for a broken timing belt by taking off the dist. cap and if the rotor does not rotate while turning the engine over, you're timing belt is broken.Hope that this helps, good luck.
