Ford Repair: 90 ford tempo, air control valve, starter solenoid

Question
I have a 90 ford tempo; fuel injected.  It runs really good but some mornings it won't start.  It just cranks over.  I've noticed that it won't start when there is a lot of humidity in the air so I lift the hood for about 15 minutes to let it air out then it fires right up.  No I'm not joking.  This has happened to me about 30 times now.  I can smell gas like its flooding when it cranks but it seems like it isn't getting any spark.  I just had a new starter solenoid, cap and rotor installed but the problem still exists.  What is going on here?  thanks, pat

Answer
Hello Pat, Check what is called the Idle Air Control valve. This controls engine idle and can stick shut and not allow it to start. The part has a 2 wire connector and is held on by 2 bolts. When it doesn't start try pushing down about 1/2 way on the gas pedal, wait about 30 seconds and crank the engine over with the throttle still held. If it starts and will stay running with your foot on the gas the vale is possibly the problem.  Let me know Thanks Tony
