Ford Repair: 95 Ford Windstar 3.8L V6, windshield washer, multifunction switch

Question
This is my mom's car & she said her windshield washer wasn't working.  I looked at it, it has enough fluid.  I noticed that you have to hold the switch down for 5+ seconds before it will work.  Is this normal operation for this vehicle, or does that indicate a problem?  If abnormal, any easy way to determine if it's the switch or motor that's malfunctioning?  Or are you aware of any "common problems" that cause this?  Any insight you could give me would be appreciated.  Thank you in advance!

Answer
Replace the multifunction switch which also includes the turn signal and high beam switches. Corrosion builds up on the contacts and this is what causes probems with engagement of the washers. Sometimes y ou will find the intermittent part of the wiper is also inop,.
