Ford Repair: power steering, power steering fluid leak, worse case scenario

Question
I have an old car with a bad power steering fluid leak.  The repair cost is so high for this old car I've considered driving with the inconvenience of no power steering.  My question is: "Will this cause damage over time?"

Answer
Depending on the year, make, and model, yes it could damage other parts.Depending on whether you have a gear box or rack and pinion, the result would be the same. They require the power steering fluids lubricant. The gear box or rack could cause the vehicle to inadvertently or uncontrollably dart into another lane without enough time to correct the maneuver, worse case scenario. That is a worse case scenario, and I am not trying to scare you,but just heed to the warning.Stay off the freeway.
