Ford Repair: my 1990 ford thunderbird, ford thunderbird, ball joints

My ball joint went out the other day while i was driving. it just snaped and the whole tire went under my car. my step dad says i need to get it replaced and also replace the rack and pinion. well my boyfriends stepdad says there isnt one on the front of the car. so i want to know, is there?

There is a ball joint and a rack and pinion on the front end of you're car.I don't understand why he wants you to replace the rack and pinion if the ball joint broke.Now,on the other hand,if the tie rod end broke,that would be a different story.Also,you have an upper and lower ball joint to consider.Ball Joints are considered part of the chassis.What is you boy friend's step dad saying isn't on the front of the car?
