Ford Repair: inquirey into the 1996 f350 460, crankcase ventilation, pcv valve

Question
I recently had a 460 rebuilt I haven't driven it over 40 miles yet when out of the blue the starter starts having trouble turning the motor over then burns out I noticed smoke coming out of the intake airfilter holder I opened it and there was oil in it could this be caused by the pcv valve? and if so where is it in the motor? if it is the pcv valve could the build up in internal pressure cause the starter to overheat and go out?

Answer
The problem with the starter is another problem all it's own.The oil in the air box is another story. That is blow by usually caused by worn rings or inadequate crankcase ventilation. If I am not mistaken, the pcv valve is located on the backside of the intake. The important part to look at is the crankcase filter. My guess is that you didn't change it when you rebuilt the problem. Those are a bear to remove. It is below the pcv valve actually in the intake. To give you an idea, there is about 2-1/2" of room between you're plenum and firewall. It is below that.Good luck,a special tool is required, that I myself cannot find.It is shapes like a corkscrew and all of the specialty vendors like Snap-On and Matco don't have them.If you can find the tool please let me know,I need one myself. You can pick up the crankcase filter at any parts store. It is about as big as a half dollar and about as thick as an average cell phone.
