Ford Repair: 289 and 351w, good resources, combinations

can 351w heads go on 289 block and if so do you use 351w intake or 289 and is there any way to check and see if this has been done to this car that I just bought? I was told that is what he did but I would like to verify it by the #'s if possible. thank you

  As far as I know the 351W heads will fit on a 289, but don't quote me on that because I'm not absolutely sure.  You'd have to use the 289 intake which would make using the 351 heads kind of a waste without some porting and port matching, but that's another matter entirely.  To find out what parts you've got using the part numbers you'll need some kind of part numbers reference.  Unfortunately there's way too many combinations of numbers for me to list here, but there are a lot of good resources online and in books available at book stores to decode parts numbers.  Hope this helps.
