Ford Repair: mustang 427, swap kits, same time period

Question
would it be better to put a 460 or a 427 in a 95 mustang???why???

Answer
Jon-

I honestly wouldn't use either engine.  First of all, the 460 is heavy.  Really heavy.  Many of them just don't make enough power to overcome their weight.  Plus you'll need a big transmission like a C6 which also sucks up a lot of power and all of that weight on the front end will make the car handle horribly.  A 427, while still a heavy engine, probably has more potential but they're certainly not easy to come by which makes them (and parts for them) much more expensive than some other engines from the same time period.  Aside from that, I'm not aware of swap kits for either engine into a '95 body.  I would recommend something like a 351W.  It's not as exotic as a 427 (don't get me wrong...I'd love to say I had a 427 under my hood), but it weighs a lot less, it can be swapped in relatively easily, and can make a ton of power for a lot less money.  If you really wanted to you could even drop in a 408 stroker kit and you're only 19 cubic inches off of a 427.  Hope this helps.
