Ford Repair: cylinder misfire, spark plug wire, cylinder misfire

Question
I have a 1996 contour 2.0l and I seem to have a engine code P304 witch seem to be a misfire on cylinder #4 but I can figure out what causes the misfire can you help me to figure it out?

Answer
Have you changed plugs or wires? If not look at the spark plugs for cracks or lines, even a very fine crack will cause misfire. Also inspect the spark plug wire boots that go thru the head, look for little white or black spots that can indicate a spark leak and shorting.

These 2.0 engines also had some trouble with valve seats that might set a misfire code but not make noise or run too bad. I suggest starting with the plugs and wires. You should also check the PCV valve, this engine is very prone to problems with non-OEM PCV valves.

If by chance you have installed Bosch plugs, they are terrible in Fords, switch to another brand.
