Ford Repair: 1994 Ford Ranger wont start!, ford ranger xlt, 1994 ford ranger xlt

Question
Greetings. My truck died on me today. I'd appreciate it if you could help me diagnose the problem. it's a

1994 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 liter 2WD Manual Transmission with 72,XXX miles.

This morning on my way to work i noticed it was having a rough time starting. Usually it starts right away with no problems. Once it started, it was fine. No performance loss. I need to change the fuel filter anyway because it's a little sluggish but nothing out of the normal once it started. It did this to me all day. I work construction and use my truck for work. Rough start but nothing out of the normal once it turned over. My truck wouldn't start at all after work. it's not grinding or turning over or anything. Just 'click'! I have plenty of power. All the lights and radio work just fine. My suspicion is that the starter is bad but i have very little knowledge about what goes on under the hood. Any ideas? Thanks!   -michael

Answer
There are 2 wires going to your starter.  One large wire and one small one.  The small wire has a "spade" connector that is not shielded from debris, and it may be corroded or broken off.  Do a good cleaning and re-attach it and see if that helps.  If not, it is likely that your starter is going bad (if your accessories work fine, the battery and connections are probably good).  Hope this helps,
