Ford Repair: How do I bleed fuel line on 2000 Ford Expedition?, engine cranks, schraeder valve

Question
QUESTION: I want to change the fuel filter and it says that it is a high pressure fuel line, to bleed the fuel line before changing the fuel filter.  Can you help me?

ANSWER: Chris-

It's pretty easy once you know what to look for.  On the fuel rail (long metal log-looking thing above the injectors) on the passenger side, I believe, you'll see what's called a Schraeder valve.  It kind of looks like a valve stem on a tire (which is also a Schraeder valve).  Find the correct socket or wrench to turn it !BUT! before turning it cover it with a rag or something similar (preferably one you won't miss).  If you don't cover it you have a pretty good chance of gasoline spraying out and making a mess of your engine and your clothes.  Once the pressure is out you can tighten it back up and re-pressurize the system whenever you get around to replacing the filter.  Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Do I need to depressurize the system before I disconnect the fuel filter?

How do I re-pressurize the system?

Answer
Chris-

Yes, anytime you open up the fuel system you should depressurize it.  I mean...you don't HAVE to, but you'll have to deal with gas spraying everywhere if you don't.  The system will re-pressurize as soon as you put the key in the "accessory on" position in your ignition.  It's the last position before the engine cranks.  It's a good idea to leave the key like that for a minute or so before starting the engine just to make sure you've got good pressure in the lines before cranking the engine.  Hope this helps.
