Ford Repair: stabilizer link, worst case scenario, tool collection

Question
i own a 2001 ford ranger. last time i had it in the shop, they told me i have a broken stabilizer link on the driver side thats broken. im not real handy with fixing vehicles. is this a job i should let the dealer do, or can a relatively average guy be able to fix?

Answer
Hello Keith,
The job you are talking about is not altogether difficult. It can be done without an extensive tool collection. You did mention that you are not handy at fixing vehicles, but the worst case scenario is that you end up taking it to someone if you decide to try. Usually link kits are sold separately, and don't take both sides apart at the same time. Take note to how the bushings and washers are positioned, and take a digital photo if you have to.
It really depends on how much your time is worth to you and if you think you would be better off paying someone to do it. You pay either way, be it through time/frustration/bleeding, or by just paying the money. I,for example,am horrible at home repairs and always end up paying someone no matter how handy I think I am.
Either way, good luck, and follow up if you need any more help at all. I hope this helped you.   Shaun.
