Ford Repair: 1998 Ford Ranger, engine racing, VIN C, vacuum leaks, air control valve

Question
        1998 Ford Ranger, 2.5L, 2 WD, Manual Trans, A/C, approx. 50,000 miles
When coming to a stop and after depressing the clutch the engine actually increases RPM's and runs at this increased RPM for approx 5-10 seconds before it settles down to normal idle speed. It does this intermittently (approx 50% of time) and it doesn't matter if A/C is on/off. Any idea what could cause this problem?

Answer
Hello Vince,
If the problem is intermittent, it is likely you have an idle air control valve sticking/binding. Check it over good for air and vacuum leaks and a dirty throttle body first, but that valve sounds like it is bad.
I hope this info helps, and good luck!  Shaun.
