Ford Repair: Mercury Mountaineer 2001, mercury mountaineer, blown fuse

Question
All controls on the steering wheel, including horn, cruise, fan, temp, vol etc.just quit working. What would cause all to stop working at the same time?

Answer
Is the little "airbag" light illuminated on the dash?  If so, you most likely need a part called a "clockspring" which is inside the steering column and allows electrical wires to reach the steering wheel even though it turns.  A blown fuse is possible too, but I would expect there to be other things not working.  There is also a possibility of a broken wire in the steering column or even a connector could have come unplugged.  Try setting the tilt at different locations to see if that makes the buttons work.  That would indicate a wire or connector problem.  Good luck,
