Question
QUESTION: O/D light is flashing.
Check engine in lit on.
Seems like the trans is stuck in the third gear.
Dash board lights seem to flicker when I put the airconditioning "ON".

ANSWER: Hello Naseer,
First thing you should do is get the computer scanned to find out why the lights came on and get the charging system checked because of the lights flickering. If the alternator has a bad diode, it can cause all kinds of strange electrical problems. Even though the alternator is charging enough to barely keep up, it can still be faulty, causing problems in electronic items throughout the vehicle. You could actually have separate problems in the transmission and the battery/charging system. Test equipment may be needed to figure out what the real problem may be, including a battery/alt/starter tester and a code scanner. Reading diagnostic trouble codes when available helps greatly. Try to read some codes and check the alternator. I hope this helps.   Shaun.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Yes.

We found a short circuit in the trans control. Fixing that short cleared all the check engine and O/D flashing. Now the trans shifts fine. Went all the way till 110MPH to check the trans.

But the lights still flicker. Diode is pending.

The plot thickens

This morning tried to crank but there was a blackout the instant I turned the ignition. The panel is dark. Should I shortout any burnt fuse and try another crank?

Answer
Hello Naseer,
I'm glad you were able to fix the transmission problem. If the battery is dead, sounds like it is, then replace the alternator. The alternator is probably not keeping up with charging needs, even though the indicator is not on. Of course check all fuses, etc, first, but I would say the alternator is bad.
Sorry it took me so long, I've had some big problems of my own lately. Feel free to follow up again, and good luck.   Shaun.
