Question
without compression tester, how would i check for burnt piston on #1cylinder

Answer
Hello Rick,
If you don't have a compression tester, take the plug out and try to hold your thumb over the hole while cranking. It should try to strongly try to push your thumb up on the compression stroke, and try to pull a vacuum on the intake stroke. If you have absolutely no compression, which a hole in the piston will cause, the you should be able to tell by doing that. Also check for a huge amount of blowby pressure in the crankcase while running. You could also have a burnt exhaust valve that is a little harder to check for without cylinder test equipment.
I hope this can help you, and I'm sorry that I wasn't able to get back to you sooner. Good Luck!   Shaun.
