Ford Repair: 1987 Ford Bronco 2 Power loss, ford bronco 2, exhaust gas recirculation

Question
My Bronco 2 has had a loss of power lately, it's a 2.9 liter, fuel injected v-6, with no known modifications. It has suddenly started to suck gas, and runs roughly, but not all of the time. Spark plugs and wires are all good. What could be causing this, and how could I fix it.

Answer
Is there a certain time when it likes to act up, such as when the engine is warmed up or when the weather is cool, etc?  If it only acts up warm, it could be a bad oxygen sensor which is attached to the exhaust pipe close to the engine.  I would be interested to see if there are any trouble codes stored in the engine's computer, some shops and parts stores will plug in their scan tool for free (or very cheaply) and you could learn a lot about what's going on.  Another possibility is a problem with the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system.  If the EGR tube sticks open, or opens too far, it could intermittently cause what you described.  A quick way to test it would be to simply unplug the small vacuum line from the EGR valve (it just pulls off) and see if it still acts up.  With the tube disconnected the valve can not open and the EGR system is disabled. Good luck, please let me know what you find.
