Ford Repair: drivetrain noise?, front wheel bearing, warped rotors

Question
I have an '03 F-150(4.6)4x4 with about 40,000miles on it.I'm getting a metallic "claque-claque claque" sound from under the driver's side. This happens only at 55mph (90 kmh) or higher. The noise disappears as I make a right-hand bend or quick right hand lane change. There's a momentary shudder when picking up from a standing start, especially on a left-hand turn. The brakes also feel noticeably rough when coming to a stop...at least it felt like it does when you your rotors get a bit warped...you feel it through the brake pedal and it sounds like something is out of roud. I replaced front rotors and pads but the problem persists. Everything sounds and feels fine while driving at city speeds but am obviously reluctant to take it on the road.
Any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Gil,
With the symptoms you are describing, it sounds like you have a bad front wheel bearing , or both. You could have a combination of warped rotors and loose wheel bearing(or bearings). I have seen 4 wheel drives, especially with larger tires on them, have premature wheel bearing failure. I would check for that first. Good luck, and I hope this helps.   Shaun.
