Ford Repair: 2001 F150 Anti theft system, bypass mode, failure rate

Question
I changed my battery and alternator now my truck won't start without me having to hold a button for the anti theft system and my keyless entry won't work any more, do you have any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Ryan,
If it is an aftermarket system, alot of times you can force it into a bypass mode by having the key on and the door open before hooking up the battery. If they are all factory systems, it is likely that you have more serious problems that you might have to let the dealership take care of. Sometimes a shorted or failed alternator can cause aftermarket alarm systems to have problems because of reversed current flow. I am not a big fan of aftermarket(not stock) anti-theft systems because of failure rate, and the fact that people always lose the remotes and can't or don't know what brand it is or who they got it from. If it is aftermarket, bypass it, and your problems are guaranteed to go away. Good luck!   Shaun.
