Ford Repair: Ford Windstar 1996 A/C Compressor Clutch pulley squealing, ford windstar 1996, ford windstar

Hi Steve, I have a 1996 Ford Windstar. I found recently serpentine belt started squealing... I traced the sound to the A/C compressor clutch pulley, looks like something was locked up, and the pulley rolls and stops,... generate the squealing and smoke(due to high friction).  

So, My question is, does that mean I have to replace the whole compressor? Any help or advice will be appreciated.

  Yeah, generally when an A/C clutch goes bad it's best to just replace the entire unit.  I'm not sure if you can just replace the clutch (I've never seen that done...it's always replaced as a whole unit), but even if you can I imagine it's just financially better to replace the whole compressor.  Hope this helps.
