Ford Repair: 1997 F150 engine swap, bellhousing, oil pan

Question
I have a bad engine and would  like to swap it out.  Truck is a 1997 F150 4.6L.  Do I need to get that specific engine or will any 4.6L fit.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Troy-

Any other 4.6L will physically fit as long as things like the oil pan and bellhousing are carried over, but ideally you'd want another 4.6L out of a truck.  Mostly because it will more closely match the settings of your computer.  Could you drop in any old 4.6L and have it run?  Sure.  But sometimes you'll run into driveability issues if the engine and copmuter don't get along.  Hope this helps.
