Ford Repair: 1996 f150 302 to 5.0L HO swap, firing order, original computer

Question
Hey Steve i have herd alot of different stories about this type of swap and figured i would get your opinion.  I have a 1996 f150 4x4 302 fuel injected.  I just bought a juiced up 5.0L HO fuel injected motor to swap into the truck.  I have been told i can swap manifolds to allow for the intake to be pointing in the right direction, and use the f150 computer and harness to run the HO as long as i change the firing order on my truck distributor to the HO order.  I have also herd that i must change the computer to a mustang computer to run the HO.  As you see my problem...conflicting advice both from top grade mechanics.  This is my daily driver so i want to be ready for the changes before i start the rip and tear. Will a f150 harness even take a mustang computer or would i have to change it all...hopefully none but I'm having my doubts .  Any advice for the swap would be greatly appreciated thanks.

It actually sounds like you're pretty much on track as far as what you'll need to do.  I'm not too sure about the computer or the wiring...the only real problem I can see using the truck's original computer would be the firing order.  The wiring harness is a mystery to me...I never learned much about electrical systems so I avoid them like the plague.  I would be surprised if you had to end up replacing the entire harness, but I'm hesitant to say much more than that because I'm just not sure.  Hope this helps.
