Ford Repair: engine swap, cougar xr7, odd cars

Question
I have a 1993 ford ranger 2wd and i want to know if its possible to put a 4.6l sohc out of a 94 cougar xr7 in it? Will it fit? Will there be major fabricating? How hard would it be to swap the motor, trans and rear end.

Answer
Ian-

Well I certainly don't think it would be an easy swap.  Swapping 5.0L motors into some older Rangers is somewhat common, but I don't think I've ever seen it done with a 4.6L motor.  If you could find a swap kit it'd make the job a whole lot easier, but I'm not sure if anyone makes such a kit.  If they don't, you're looking at some serious fabrication...so much that it wouldn't really be worth the time and money unless you positively couldn't like without a 4.6L Ranger.  You might put in a call to the guys at Sean Hyland Motorsports.  They've put some odd motors into odd cars and they know a lot more about modular motors (like the 4.6L) than I probably ever will.  Hope this helps.
