Ford Repair: Engine building resources, 300ci ford engine, haynes manuals, ford engine

Question
Hi, Would you have any engine building resources for me to give to my non tech saavy father. He's not internet saavy and I don't quite know what he's looking for, but he wants to build a 300ci ford engine for racing (I think). I think it's a straight 6 cil? Can you point me to some good books and/or websites, books would be especially helpful, that will give him directions on building one. let me know if you need more details of my request. thanks!

Answer
As much as I hate to say it, I don't think your father will have much luck in building a 300 straight 6 for racing.  As basic truck motors go, they're good motors.  But there are aren't really many (if any) aftermarket performance parts for them.  Unless he's building the motor for a class of racing that specifically requires a 300ci motor, I'd say there are quite a few other engines that would be much better suited for the job.  If he's looking to simply rebuild it, I'm sure there are a few resources on the net and in books like Chiltons or Haynes manuals that would be decent.  Hope this helps.
