Ford Repair: F-150 fuel pump, two tanks, swan song

Question
I have a 1989 f-150 with two tanks. when I switch to front tank I hear a loud hum and at high speeds it sputters. I would guess the fuel pump is bad in the front tank. Is this true and is it hard to remove this pump, anything special I should know?

Answer
Rob-

I'd say you're right on the money.  That humming you hear is pretty typical of a fuel pump's swan song which means it won't last long.  Swapping pumps isn't terribly hard.  It can be done in your driveway on a Saturday.  Just drain the fuel tank, drop the tank, swap the pumps, and bolt everything back up.  Hope this helps.
