Ford Repair: engine, coil wire, test light

Question
My 1986 F-150 pick-up won't start. 302 V8, automnatic. Has new coil and igniter. Turns over fine but is not getting fire.

Answer
Mike, first, take off the distributor cap and have someone turn over the engine.  Make sure the rotor is rotating.  Next, take a test light.  Ground it out and stick the positive end of the test light on the positive side of the ignition coil, turn on the key.  You should have electricity.  If you do, then it is more than likely the coil, the coil wire, or the pick up coil.  You have replaced the coil, so odds are the pick up coil has went bad, or your coil wire has burned up.  My bet is the pick up coil.  Now, what do you mean by "igniter?"  The box on the side of the fender well?  Because if you do not have electricity at the coil, then you should take the ignition control module (the box on the side of the fender well) and have it checked at your local parts store.  Make sure they run it through the test a few times to get it hot.  If you try all this and everything checks out fine, then the only thing I can think of is to make sure that you are getting gas to the cylinders.  Also, did you do any work to the engine before this happened, or did you just go out to start it one day and it did not start?  I hope this helps.  Let me know if you still have problems,   Jason
