Ford Repair: 1997 mustang cobra, mil eliminators, dallas mustang

Question
QUESTION: would it be a bad idea performance wise to remove cat converters and add flow masters
ANSWER: Thomas-

The only issue you might run into removing the converters would be problems with the O2 sensors.  They need to reach a certain temperature to operate correctly and the converters help them do that.  Without the converters you could get a check engine light telling you that your O2 sensors are out of range.  This doesn't always happen, which is kind of strange, but if it does you can pick up pieces called MIL eliminators that get rid of the light thrown by O2 sensors when adding long tube headers or removing converters.  I know Dallas Mustang sells them...other companies do too, I'm sure.  Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Thanks for answering my question so quickly. I was just wondering what you think with adding the T40 flow masters and cutting the cat converters about how much horse power will I be adding. Also what is your opinion on the Tornado, that small fan looking device you put before your air filter to help increase air flow. It was sold on television a while back.
Thanks Again

Answer
Thomas-

Honestly, I wouldn't go with the Flowmasters...but that's more of a personal preference.  Years ago they made great sounding mufflers, but for the last 7 or 8 years (ever since they introduced the "Delta" series), they just don't sound as good to me.  For a modular motored Mustang I'd go with Bassanni, but they're more expensive so to each his own.  I'd say with mufflers and no cats you could expect maybe 15-20hp in gains.  It's not huge, but you'll probably be able to feel in in the seat of your pants.  Ahhhh...the Tornado.  Well...I guess those things aren't completely worthless, but just about.  I've never heard anyone say anything positive about them.  I usually hear "yeah, it's in there but I can't tell any difference in anything".  It won't hurt power or economy, I'm sure...but you'd be better off saving your money for something better like a cold air kit or even a simple K&N filter.  Hope this helps.
