Ford Repair: 1979 mustang, indy pace car, vin decoders

I am looking at a 79' mustang 4cylinder turbo 4sp. he car has been repainted, and I am wondering what I should look for on the vin number to find out if it was an indy pace car, also how many of these cars were produced in 79' with the turbo.

  Unfortunately I don't have any VIN decoders or production numbers for '79 Indy Pace Cars or turbo 4 cylinder motors in general (though the turbo 4 motors weren't exactly uncommon).  I can tell you that clean Indy cars generally command some decent money and it'd be extremely rare (and not terribly bright) for someone to convert one to a regular turbo 4.  It would have a different hood and front bumper than a regular 4 cylinder car and possibly more (I'm not really up on my '79 Indy specs) from what I remember.  Hope this helps.
