Ford Repair: ford window, ford fairmont, rattle sound

Jason, i have a 1980 ford fairmont  and  the fron drivers  window is broken. it doesn't wind up or down it  just  falls down  and there  is  something broken inside  of the door  as  it  makes  a  rattle sound.  Is the part  tht i need  to look for  called  a  window regulator?(it's a manual window), 2. Can you tell me or do you know  of a free website  that i can get some step by step instructions on how to replace this window regulator myself??? Thanks for your help!!!!

Ryan, it does sound like a window regulator has broke.  Maybe a gear or rivet has popped out.  The best thing to do is take off the door panel and have a look.  You can pick up a Chilton Manual at your local parts store.  It has some pretty good diagrams and instructions on how to do the job.  The regulator shouldn't cost much more than 40 dollars, and the manual will be another 20 dollars.  Pop the door panel off and take a look at what is going on inside.  Write me back when you have "eyeballed" it, and we can go from there.   Jason
