Question
QUESTION: How do i figure out what 6 cylinder motor i have I think its smaller than the 300 six but how do i tell for sure. Thanks Jeff
ANSWER: Jeff, you can send me the engine code that is stamped on the motor and I will let you know.  Or, you can call a dealership with the code and they will be able to tell you. There are usually certain parts that are different for every motor.  I couldn't say for sure on that early of a year model, but I think that the distributor should be different.  See if you can find the engine code on the block.  Write me back if you still are running into problems with figuring it out.    Jason

QUESTION: It has 2 numbers and a couple of the numbers are hard to read so here goes. 05AE-6015-f and the other is 3D20 or it could be C5AE-6015-F and 5D20 the first letter on both are hard to tell. Thanks so much i hope this isenough. Thanks Jeff
ANSWER: Jeff, The code you have given me is a typical 289 V-8 engine number.  Are you sure that it is a 6 cylinder?

QUESTION: Yes im sure its an inline 6. Thanks Jeff
ANSWER: Jeff, I have looked everywhere that I can think of.  I have only found one inline 6 with the first four letters that match the ones you gave me.  That would be the 300.  The rest of the smaller ones seem to come with completely different casting numbers.  The older the vehicle, the harder it is to identify the block.  6015 is a typical casting number for a v-8 motor.  C5AE typically means that it came out in a 60's model truck.  I wish that I could have helped you more.  There are a lot of ford forums on the internet where you can ask about casting numbers, the problem is that you generally have to come across someone that has dealt with the motor, knew what size they had, and kept up with the casting number.  Good luck,   Jason

QUESTION: Yes its A 1960 all original i bought it from  the original owner it has 60,000 miles. Do you know what all inline sixes they made that year. Thanks so much for everything.

Answer
Jeff, I have some good news for you.  As far as I can tell, they only made 2 inline 6cyls. back then.  Regardless, they all have different water pumps.  If you can get a casting number off the water pump, I should be able to tell you what size the motor is.  FYI they made a 144, 170, 200, IL240, 240, IL300.  Get me that casting number, or send me a picture.  You will need to give me your email address and I will reply with one that you can send a picture to.    Jason
