Ford Repair: 93 ford, oxygen sensors, muffler shop


Question
1993 f-150 runs rough on takeoff and has a sulphery smell to the exhaust. tune up has been done , no trouble codes. 302 c.i. Possible catalytic converter problem ? Also ,it runs better on premium feul than regular. Thanks.

Mike, 9 times out of 10, that sulphery smell you are talking about is a bad cat converter.  Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about it other than change the converter.  You can get this done at any muffler shop, however, I would suggest finding a mechanic.  The reason being is that most of time when your cat converter clogs up, the rest of your emissions system will also start having problems.  EGR valve tubes will get clogged, oxygen sensors will get clogged, etc.  It is always best to clean these after you replace the cat converter.  That way you start off with a clean emissions system, as opposed to one that will keep causing you problems every few months.  Also, just because you can't see the check engine light on the dash, doesn't mean there is not a code.  I hope this helps,   Jason
