Ford Repair: 2003 Ford Taurus, ford taurus, luck chris

Question
I have a 2003 Ford Taurus SES 24v 3.0 liter. I'm having a problem, which I was told was either with the EGR valve or sensor. I am noticing that it hesitates when accelerating at low speeds (under 35mph) and when the engine is cold. I noticed the left half of the sensor "tube" has melted. The "Check Engine" light is on, but I haven't had the computer read yet to see exactally what's wrong. If it is either the EGR valve or sensor, how easy would it be to put it on myself? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi DAvid thanks for asking. I think you are talking about the D.P.F.E sensor. common issue on alot of these. You can replace this part your self, it is very simple. but clearing the codes in the PCM  cannot be done yourself. Take it to who ever  did the scan on your vehicle after you replace the D.P.F.E sensor. And they should clear it free of charge.
Good luck
