Ford Repair: Heater core replacement, ford service manuals, heater core replacement

Question
I was wondering if you know how to get the heater core out of a 97 thunderbird.  I have access to the ford service manuals but it doesn't say if dash removal is necessary.  Have you ever replaced one before or know how to get it out?

Thanks
James

Answer
James,

Yes dash removal is necessary. What I do is drop the steering column onto the floor and then remove all the dash mounting bolts. I only undo the passenger side wire harness and then pivot the dashboard onto the passenger seat. This gives enough room to slide the A/C box back and remove the heater core. You may need a shop to remove the charge from your A/C system since the A/C evap core and heater core are in the same box on that one.

Good Luck!!
