Ford Repair: electrical, steering column, discharges

Question
1988 F150 4X4. I have new battery(1000 CA), Alternator gage shows it is charging, when I turn on AC/Heat the gage shows it discharges very bad. If I drive any long distance with AC or Heat on then turn the truck off, it  will not  start for about 30 minutes. As long as I don't run the AC, Heat are lights for a hours it does OK.

Answer
Dexter,

I would check your ignition switch in the steering column. You power to the A/C & heat go through it and I bet it is getting too hot or has melted the main plug. The switch itself is cheap (Like $10 bucks) but be sure the connector is not melted.
