Ford Repair: F-250 Service Engine Light, crankshaft pulley, ford f 250

Question
I have a 2000 Ford F-250 with a 7.3 Power Stroke. On occasion it will
act like its running out of fuel, the service engine light will come on
so I pull over to the side of the road. Sometimes it will die other
times it just runs poorly like its starved for fuel. I can shut off the
engine, wait a little bit and restart it and it runs fine. Any advice
would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Dale,

I would replace the cam position sensor. I have seen these give false readings to the computer and cause the engine to do strange things. The powerstroke has no other crank sensor to use as a reference so it sometimes won't set a code.  It is located in the front timing cover just above the crankshaft pulley. Not too hard to change out, one 10mm bolt holds it in. Lubricate the O-ring with some silicon spray and the new one should push in pretty easy.
