Ford Repair: ALB Light coming on, ford garage, abs light

Question
We have a 2000 Ford Explorer w/ approx 107k miles.  The orange ALB light stays on all the time - any idea why and if its a costly repair?

Thanks!

Answer
Chris,

Are you sure it is not the ABS light? I have never heard of an ALB light before.  If it is the ABS light chances are pretty good that it needs a rear axle speed sensor. They are not that expensive and pretty easy to change. To know for sure though you need to have the vehicle scanned at a garage. It doesn't have to be a Ford garage just someone with a good scan tool. If it is a code for rear axle speed sensor then you can replace it yourself. It just slides into the top of the axle, has one plug and is held in with one 1/2" bolt.
