Ford Repair: casting numbers, ford part numbers, mustang coupe


Question
I need to know what year model motor is in my sons 89 mustang coupe. It has been conv. to a carbureted motor. I have some numbers off of the block & heads. block # ETTE CA 7E11 & HEAD # Pass.7628 / Dri.7623                                                     Can you help me with the numbers provided,any info would be greatly appreciated.

  Well...I can't tell you much.  Is the first "T" possibly a "7"?  Ford part numbers go by decade first (E = 1980's) and then the year in that decade (so something like E7 would be 1987).  Besides, it's extremely common to find E7TE casting numbers in later model Fox body (1979-1993) Mustangs.  There's a good chance you've got the original motor in there, but it's just been converted to a carb.  If the heads also carry the E7 casting numbers then they're probably also stock.  E7 heads are considered among the more desireable later 302 heads because they respond very well to porting.  That, and because they're pretty easy to find.  Hope this helps.
